We’ve mentioned on the site previously that we’re rather liking what Demi brings to ‘The X Factor’ panel in the US. She comes across as warm, personable and rather genuine.
Sadly, that last adjective is a million miles away from the sounds of her new single ‘Neon Lights’, which is what Madonna might call “reductive”. It sounds so much like everything that’s gone before it in the copycat world of dance/pop music; like a photocopy of the Nicki Minaj back catalogue (some have suggested Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’). So it’s not original in the slightest bit.
The clip’s colourful, exciting and – as to be expected – filled with neon and glow in the dark paint, but it’s that all-too-familiar song behind it that spoils it for us.

Kinda have to agree with Auspop on this one..The song was at its best at the beginning stipped back and just about the voice…the dance/pop element was boring..

I love you guys, but thought this was a bit harsh. :/

Hey Anonymous #2,
Stupid perhaps for expecting more from today’s pop artists and not just some more middle-of-the-road, reductive, rehashed dance/pop. We’ve moved on from that.

Are you serious? This record is great. Have you not listened to every song out there today on the radio? Its all about pop/dance music. Hollywood Records released this song because of that reason! How stupid are you?

I find the original edit pretty boring! But check out the ‘Betty Who Remix’ and you’ll find yourself loving the song – it’s brilliant!!
