It’s been a little while between drinks again, but given the weather’s starting to progressively become warmer and your weekend daylight hours are starting to become increasingly longer, we reckon it’s as good a time as any to deliver with another edition of our Free Track Friday posts! So the time has come for you to once again get your downloading fingers at the ready for some fresh freebies…
• BELANGER : So High (Pet Shop Boys / Sonique mashup)
We really ought to have featured this one on the site properly when it came through recently. New York-based producer Belanger has cunningly mashed up the Pet Shop Boys’ recent single ‘Vocal’ and the classic Sonique single ‘It Feels So Good’ with startlingly decent effects. It’s six and a half minutes of dancefloor amazingness that’s bound to get your weekend off to the best possible start – and even more amazing is it’s free to download HERE.
• THIEF : Broken Boy (Césare Remix)
Sydney artist Thief last week released his debut EP entitled ‘Closer’ and it’s pretty immaculate. Filled with fresh, glimmering synth-pop, the EP has cemented the performer (real name PJ Wolf) as one to watch in the coming months and years. Wonderfully, EP track ‘Broken Boy’ has been given a Brazilian remix reworking by Césare – and it’s spectacular. Naturally, the gang behind his release want you to have it for nothing, so you can get your mittens on it HERE.
• CRSB : Touch The Sky
Hailing from the sunny shores of San Francisco, urban/pop duo CRSB (that’d stand for Chris Ramos and Sonny B – the boys’ names) deliver the kind of pop/dance/urban crossover that proliferating the the charts at the moment. From Derulo to Tempah, Justice Crew to Timomatic, the sound is everywhere. So it’s understandable that these young chaps would want a slice of the pie. And ‘Touch The Sky’ is a pretty decent offering. There’s plenty of dance beats, up-to-the-minute production and some lovely harmonies. Better still, the single’s free right HERE and the album’s out now.
• BRANDY & MONICA : The Boy Is Mine (Kulkid Remix)
Brandy & Monica’s single ‘The Boy Is Mine’ was a big hit here in Australia on its release some 15 years ago. It peaked inside the ARIA top ten and became the biggest hit for each of its leading ladies. Fast forward a decade and a half and French producer Kulkid has given the track a new lease on live, giving it a smooth ’90s-esque dance makeover which we’re rather liking. You can like it to by liking his Facebook page and nabbing the remix free of charge HERE.
• DREE PATERSON : Forever
Fresh out of Los Angeles, Dree Paterson has recently been taking to her Soundcloud account to upload cover versions of various chart hits (like Grouplove’s ‘Ways To Go’ and Ellie Goulding’s ‘Burn’), but she’s also been hard at work on the music that will form her debut EP ‘A Louder Side Of Me’, due early in the new year. We get where she’s going with the title too, because while her previous outings have varied between dance/pop and reggae, this new song ‘Forever’ lies a little more in the pop/rock realm. And like her forays into the previous genres, it too is pretty good. Get on board with Dree by downloading the single for nothing HERE.
• EDDIE GREY : Only On The Weekend
Los Angeles native Eddie Grey is a smooth character. Clearly not afraid to show a little bit of flesh (check out the cover of his debut album ‘Metamorphoses’ HERE for more on that), his voice is about as super-smooth as his chest. ‘Only On The Weekend’ fuses pop, soul and a little bit of contemporary rock, with a feel-good chorus that we reckon would sound smashing in a little acoustic club somewhere. You can download it for nothing HERE.
• KRIS ANGELIS : Not Your Fault
We’ve featured Los Angeles-based folk/pop starlet Kris Angelis on the site before – ironically in our last Free Track Friday segment. She’s back with a brand new single, however… the very sweet ‘Not Your Fault’. Lifted from her recently-released album ‘The Left Atrium’, the single is delicate and sweet, taking a lyrical look back on a relationship that just didn’t work out. It’s a gorgeous piece of folk/pop which can be yours for nix HERE.
And that’s your lot this time around. We’ll be back with another Free Track Friday… somewhere down the track. In the meantime, have yourself a brilliant weekend!
