Though their 2012 breakout single ‘Thank You’ was a pretty decent pop song, it was their 2013 follow-up ‘Classic’ that shone brighter for us.
With a tip of its hat to the soulful Motown songs of the ’60s – and with more than a hint of Jackson 5 – ‘Classic’ burst onto the scene back in June and has remained in the top 100 ever since, currently sitting at double platinum; almost matching the triple platinum accreditation of its predecessor. But it’s arguably ‘Classic’ that’s the better song.
Fun, frothy, bright, bubbly and incredibly infectious, if anything the single proved that Malcolm and Tony were anything but a one hit wonder. And with MKTO’s debut album coming early in the new year, there’s every indication that they’re not done yet.
Our No.2 pop single of the year for 2013… MKTO’s ‘Classic’. We kinda like it like it.
