Pharrell Williams’ new single ‘Happy’ – serviced to media earlier this week – bullets from its No.10 debut last week to No.4 this week, while the new Rudimental track ‘Free’ with Nas & Emeli Sandé rockets from No.26 to No.7.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘I See Fire’ rebounds from No.21 to No.13, Imagine Dragons’ ‘Demons’ is now platinum at No.15 and Bastille’s ‘Of The Night’ also joins the platinum party; down from No.11 to No.16.
With new music a little light on the ground at the moment due to the upcoming festive season, MKTO’s new tune ‘God Only Knows’ finds its feet, moving up from No.44 to No.32.
There’s movement for London Grammar’s ‘Strong’ (No.79 to No.39) and Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ (now with a double platinum certification), the week’s highest debut is Lea Michele’s single ‘Cannonball’ (No.45) and A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera bullet from No.69 to No.47 with ‘Say Something’.
Outside the top 50, Will.I.Am premieres at No.53 with ‘Feelin’ Myself’ (alongside Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa and French Montana), Flo Rida’s ‘How I Feel’ drops from No.41 to No.57, Jess Mauboy’s ‘Beautiful’ falls 20 places to No.66 and the Triple J Christmas No.1 might have peaked a week too early. It’s down from a No.9 debut last week to No.69 this week.
Further south, Childish Gambino’s ‘3005’ is in at No.81, Flume’s ‘Holdin’ On’ drops from No.67 to No.89 and the John Mayer/Katy Perry duet ‘Who You Love’ is in first week at No.95.
On the albums side of the draw, despite big sales across the globe (including more that 35,000 copies locally) for her surprise fifth album, Beyoncé can only manage a No.2 debut on the ARIA albums chart, with the king of Christmas, Michael Bublé, holding onto top spot with his ‘Christmas’ LP. In fact, not only does Michael hold onto the top spot, but he also powers ahead in the accreditations department; ‘Christmas’ is now nine times platinum.
Beyoncé debuts with gold at No.2, The 12th Man’s biggest hits jumps from No.6 to No.3 and the ‘Naitch (Human Nature) remain in the No.4 spot with their festive collection.
Katy Perry’s ‘Prism’ has a double platinum sheen at No.5, Taylor Henderson’s album is platinum at No.7, James Blunt’s ‘Moon Landing’ is platinum at No.12, Robbie Williams’ ‘Swings Both Ways’ is gold at No.13 and Tina Arena’s ‘Reset’ is platinum at No.15.
Neil Finn and Paul Kelly’s collaboration ‘Goin’ Your Way’ jumps ten places to No.17, but post the tour, Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ drops from No.14 to No.32.
Jack Johnson’s album ‘From Here To Now To You’ is up nine positions; Jai Waetford’s EP is down 21 (from a No.21 debut) and Christmas albums for Marina Prior and Anthony Callea both make their way into the top 50 (No.46 for Marina, No.47 for Anthony).
New at No.48 is Matt Corby’s ‘Live On The Resolution Tour’.
There’s more festive frivolity from Michael Crawford (‘Michael Crawford’s Christmas’) at No.57. But Childish Gambino’s album drops from No.37 on debut to No.63 and Passenger’s ‘All The Little Lights’ is down from No.44 to No.64.
The deluxe edition of Russell Morris’ ‘Sharkmouth’ debuts at No.78, right ahead of Alicia Keys’ ‘Girl On Fire/VH1 Storytellers’ and Britney Spears’ album ‘Britney Jean’ continues its horrendous slide into chart oblivion. No.12 on debut, No.47 last week and No.83 this week.
