• The gang at Hard Candy have revealed the apparent cover image for Kylie Minogue’s upcoming single ‘Into The Blue’ (left). The pic appeared on their social media sites earlier today, with the single due at media in just over a week’s time.
• EMI has announced a new deal with British musician Morrissey. The new global deal with Harvest Records/Capitol will see the singer release a brand new album later in the year, with Capitol Music Group Chairman Steve Barnett saying, “Morrissey is clearly one of music’s most important and influential artists. He is the rare soul who has stayed consistently true to his artistic vision and ethical principles since he first exploded onto the scene in the 1980s. We are so happy that he has chosen Capitol Music Group as his home and that his forthcoming album on Harvest will bring new Morrissey music to the world.”
• The Sydney Entertainment Centre is no more. Well, in name only. The venue still exists, naturally, but from today it has a new naming sponsor and will be known as the Qantas Credit Union Arena for the next two years. Our auspOp Diary entries and further tour announcements will reflect the name change.
• Organisers of Soundwave have revealed that British outfit Placebo will play Sydney and Melbourne headline shows early next month as part of their Aussie visit. They’ll play Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Monday February 24 before heading south to Melbourne for a gig at the Palais Theatre on Thursday February 27. Tickets for both are on sale this Tuesday.
• Also doing their Soundwave sideshow thing are Stone Temple Pilots (Enmore Theatre on February 25, Palais Theatre on February 26), Alterbridge/Living Colour (The HiFi Sydney on Feb 25, The Forum Melbourne on Feb 26) and Rob Zombie/Korn (Sydney’s Luna Park Big Top on Feb 24 and The Palace in Melbourne on February 26). Tickets for all are also on sale this Tuesday.
• Aussie songstress Sally Seltmann will release her new album ‘Hey Daydreamer’ late next month. The Sydney-based singer songwriter revealed the official cover image of the album (above) earlier in the week, confirming it will contain eleven new songs and will drop at retailers everywhere on Friday February 28.
• As revealed on our new release schedule on Thursday, Shock Records will release the new Ziggy Marley album ‘Fly Rasta’ in Australia on Friday April 11. The new ten track LP comes hot on the heels of Ziggy’s Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album for his 2012 live release.
• This little Sunday wrap signals the kick-off of our 2014 series of news wraps, with pop news set to become a little more plentiful over the coming weeks.
