• Katy Perry has given her global fanbase a taste of what to expect from the forthcoming official video to her latest single ‘Dark Horse’. The track, which is already riding high at No.1 on the US Billboard singles chart, hasn’t yet made it onto the local singles chart, but is already within the iTunes top 40. Check out the Egyptian-flavoured clip teaser HERE. The video proper is due next Friday Australian time.
• Sydney indie outfit New Empire have inked a new deal with Shock Records. The Cronulla outfit has subsequently confirmed that their forthcoming third album called ‘In A Breath’ will be released on Friday April 18.
• The Groovin The Moo Festival in Bendigo on Saturday May 03 has officially sold out. Tickets for the remaining five shows – in Maitland, Townsville, Bunbury, Canberra and Oakbank in South Australia – are on sale now.
• Melbourne folk/pop outfit The Paper Kites have announced a national tour. Eleven dates are locked into the schedule, kicking off in Newcastle on Thursday May 29; the tour visiting the five major capitals, along with Canberra, Darwin, Byron Bay, Wollongong and Bunbury. Tickets are on sale now.
• It’s three weeks on top for Katy Perry and her ‘Dark Horse’ this week. And despite Beyoncé bulleting from No.13 to No.2 last week, she drops back in spectacular fashion this week – from No.2 to No.8. Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ swaps places with B, rising from No.8 to No.2 and Bastille’s ‘Pompeii’ re-emerges in the top ten.
• ‘Frozen’ has thawed with the US record buying public, it would appear; the soundtrack to the Disney smash being replaced at No.1 on the Billboard 200 Album chart this week by the latest edition of the popular ‘NOW’ compilation series. ‘Frozen’ only drops to No.2, however, with Bruno Mars’ ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ moving up from No.7 to No.3 on the back of his Superbowl performance. The Toni Braxton/Babyface collaboration debuts at No.4, Broken Bells’ ‘After The Disco’ is in at No.5 and a super-strong (albeit belated) debut for the Little Mix album ‘Salute’ at No.6.

I think you mean “ineligible”, Anonymous #1 (“illegible” = “unreadable” :-).
Is “Dark Horse” actually an official single in Australia? As Anonymous #1 pointed out, it was in the Top 10 for weeks, but her record company prevented it from appearing on the ARIA charts (it wasn’t ARIA’s fault). Its day has been and gone, so it seems pointless making it an official single here now (radio supported it a lot, but airplay has dropped off considerably now). Time for a brand new single in Australia, after this missed opportunity (“Unconditionally” would have done a lot better if it hadn’t been competing with “Dark Horse”, so they’ve really lost two opportunities here).

it’s ridiculous that Dark Horse was illegible from charting on ARIA over xmas when it was in the top 10 on iTunes for weeks!
