You know what? Credit where it’s due to The Saturdays. Though their six years of being have thus far yielded just the one No.1 hit in their native UK (2012’s ‘What About Us’), 13 of their 16 singles have impacted the British top ten; eight of them the top five. And while their impact beyond UK shores may be limited at best, they’re still ploughing on in the hope of global chart domination.
Latest single from the fivesome is the fifth from their recent album ‘Living For The Weekend’, which dropped in their homeland late last year, garnering top ten success (their fourth to do so).
The pluses of the clip (released just a couple of hours ago) is that the styling is super-sharp, right from the in-your-face-product-placement get-go. And even though it’s entirely studio-based, there’s plenty to keep your eyes focused as the girls go about delivering the track.
But the issue for us IS the track. Yes, it’s bright, poppy, entirely danceable, but there’s not enough to differentiate this from pretty much everything else out there on the market these days. And while ‘Not Giving Up’ loses points for that, we still hold out a flicker of hope that The Saturdays may be able to pick up where the now-defunct Girls Aloud left off… super-sharp styling; great pop songs.
