Given a number of artists these days get enjoy their 15 minutes of fame, one could assume that given their name, Aussie boyband 5 Seconds Of Summer have plenty more time up their sleeve to achieve global superstardom. And they’re certainly well on their way, if their recent chart placings are anything to go by.
Beyond achieving a platinum accreditation over the weekend for their ‘She Looks So Perfect’ EP, the boys hit the No.1 spot on the ARIA singles chart on Saturday, adding to their No.1 placing achieved in New Zealand earlier in the week.
The good news kept rolling in on Friday, with confirmation that all seven dates on the boys’ Australian ‘No Place Like Home’ tour, from late next month, had entirely sold out.
And now comes news that they’ve debuted at No.1 on the UK singles chart to boot, becoming only the third Australian group in history and the first Aussie group in 13 years to achieve the feat. They also bagged the No.1 spot in Ireland.
Now all eyes are firmly affixed on the US, where the boys’ EP will be released tomorrow. Its current placing at No.3 on the US iTunes chart suggests that although they may struggle to hit the top spot on sales alone, they’re certainly well on their way to being our latest home-grown international phenomenon.

Look I’m stoked we’ve got another Aussie success story but I just wish it was for something decent. ‘She Looks So Perfect’ just isn’t very good so I do find it baffling the level of its popularity…
