The countdown is on to the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest and as we’ve done for the past six years here on auspOp, we’re taking a look at each and every one of the entrants to this year’s competition in the lead-up to the first semi final in wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen on Tuesday May 06.
The Danish capital will come alive with all the colour, movement and pure spectacle of the annual song contest, which in 2014 celebrates its 59th year.
So are you ready to get in the mood for our annual Eurovision shenanigans? Let’s kick off with a look at Switzerland’s entry, which will take part in the second of the semi finals.
SEBALTER : Hunter Of Stars
It would appear that Swiss performer Sebalter has enjoyed a varied music career across the past decade and a half. From early days playing in a rock covers band to a place in a folk outfit and now to the biggest stage in all of Europe. ‘Hunter Of Stars’ is the singer’s first solo effort, however, and it peaked just inside the top 40 on the Swiss charts. Which makes us question… if the Swiss didn’t like it, will the rest of Europe?
Well there’s banjo, whistling, a happy-go-lucky kinda feel, but it’s clear by looking at the official clip (below) that Sebalter hasn’t had much experience in front of the camera before; he’s like an over-excitable puppy. It would also appear that the director might not have had much experience directing before (cameraman in the window reflection, anyone?). Will ‘Hunter Of Stars’ make it through to the Grand Final? It’s our first video for 2014 so it’s hard to judge so early on in the piece, but our money’s on… no.
