• British pop legends the Pet Shop Boys were yesterday announced as part of the line-up for this year’s Vivid Festival in Sydney. The duo will perform three nights (June 06, 07 and 08) at Carriageworks as part of an exhibition called ‘Modulations’. The Presets, disco legend Giorgio Moroder and The Pixies are also set to appear as part of the festival, which kicks off on May 23.
• That upcoming new Rachael Leahcar Beatles covers album now has a proper name. Originally on the Universal schedule simply as ‘Beatles Album’, the LP now has the much more palatable name of ‘Here Comes The Sun’ for when it drops at Aussie retailers on Friday April 11.
• Bliss N Eso have added an Adelaide show to their upcoming ‘Circus In The Sky’ national tour. After wowing a 15,000 strong crowd at the recent Clipsal 500 event, the gang has revealed that they’ll set up an outdoor stage at the city’s Tampawardli Park for the show on May 24. Tickets are on sale Monday.
• British boyband Rixton might not be widely known in Australia at this stage (or anywhere else for that matter), but they’re set to make their mark with their debut single ‘Me And My Broken Heart’, which has been serviced to local media. It’s taken off an EP of the same name, which is due for release on Monday in the UK; presumably the same for Australia.
• There’s plenty more pop rolling around at radio this week, including the Habits remix of Swedish artist Tove Lo’s ‘Stay High’, the UK No.1 single ‘My Love’ by Route 94 ftg. Jess Glynne, Wendy Matthews’ new track ‘Amelia’, Imagine Dragons’ ‘Bleeding Out’ and the new Jason Singh single ‘Speakers’. • He may not have progressed past the bootcamp phase of last year’s ‘X Factor’ competition, but Sydney-based singer Noa is pushing on with his career undeterred as an independent. The singer has just released his new single ‘Regal Disaster’, which comes with a desert-based clip (HERE).
• She may have been a relative unknown before the start of the year, but British singer Jess Glynne is now the name on everyone’s lips, bagging her second No.1 single of the year in the UK, this time on Route 94’s single ‘My Love’. The track debuts in the top spot on the British singles chart this week, with her other vocal appearance (on Clean Bandit’s hit ‘Rather Be’) still holding at No.3. Lily Allen’s ‘Air Balloon’ and Coldplay’s ‘Magic’ are the only other top ten debuts this week, at Nos.7 and 10 respectively.
• Pharrell Williams may have relinquished the top spot on the UK singles chart with ‘Happy’ this week, but he’ll take some consolation from the fact that his album ‘GIRL’ has premiered atop the British albums chart. Avicii’s ‘True’ bullets into the top ten; so too Katy Perry’s ‘Prism’ and Imagine Dragons’ ‘Night Visions’.
