British singer songwriter Sam Smith first rose to prominence via ‘La La La’, his collaboration with Naughty Boy. His previous single ‘Lay Me Down’ (his debut) barely scraped into the UK top 50. But his second solo single ‘Money On My Mind’ premiered at No.1 on the British charts, proving the worth of that little aforementioned collaboration.
The next chapter in Sam’s career comes in the form of single No.3 – ‘Stay With Me’, which will also serve in the role as the all-important album launch single.
It’s gorgeous. Mid-tempo beats, a gospel choir and Sam’s sweet and smoky vocal all combine spectacularly. Sure it feels as though the styling has been lifted straight from the Emeli Sandé book of soul/pop, but for our money, that ain’t no bad thing.
