• Aussie outfit Tonight Alive is back with their brand new single ‘The Edge’. It’s lifted from the soundtrack to the new ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ film and was penned by the band specifically for the ‘Spider-Man’ project. It’s due for global release on April 01.
• Organisers of Record Store Day Australia this week unveiled three ambassadors for the 2014 event, which is set to take place on April 19. Singer songwriter Dan Sultan will release his new album ‘Blackbird’ just two weeks before this year’s event, but he’ll be joined in his ambassadorial duties by music entrepreneur Tim Dalton and industry veteran Ian Hunter.
• Speaking of Record Store Day, fans of Tame Impala will have the chance to get their hands on a very special vinyl from the band, being released specifically for the day. The eight track ‘Live Versions’ vinyl contains tracks recorded live at a show in Chicago last year. It’s available for one day only at selected participating retailers.
• US outfit The Dandy Warhols will tour Australia in August. Metropolis and Select Touring companies are bringing the band down under for a five show schedule, which kicks off at Perth’s Astor Theatre on August 22. They’ll then play the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on August 26, the Enmore in Sydney on August 29, Brisbane’s Tivoli Theatre on August 30 and HQ in Adelaide on August 31. Tickets are on sale from 9am this Thursday.
• Former Angels frontman Doc Neeson has revealed his first studio recording in seven years. A cover of the Flash In The Pan track, ‘Walking In The Rain’ was delivered to media yesterday morning and released digitally at the same time. Catch Doc’s performance of the track on ‘Rockwiz’ this Monday night on SBS from 9:30pm.
• Pharrell Williams is still spreading his special brand of ‘Happy’ atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week. The single remains in the top spot for a fourth successive week with the remainder of the top six unmoved behind him. Viral hit ‘We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow’ by Soko thunders into the countdown, debuting at No.9 and Aloe Blacc’s ‘The Man’ edges two places to hit No.10.
• Rick Ross has gone; so too Pharrell, leaving the ‘Frozen’ soundtrack to regain the No.1 mantle on this week’s Billboard 200 albums chart. Luke Bryan’s ‘Spring Break 6’ EP premieres in the No.2 spot and the new Aloe Blacc album ‘Lift Your Spirit’ premieres at No.4, leaving Rick to No.3 and Pharrell to No.5. 311’s ‘Stereolithic’ is in at No.6, Young Money’s ‘Rise Of An Empire’ debuts at No.7 and the other top ten debut for the week belong to Sara Evans’ album ‘Slow Me Down’, which appears at No.9. Kylie Minogue’s ‘Into The Blue’ rises to No.4 on this week’s Dance Club Songs chart.
