We can’t think of another track in our almost six year history that’s generated the volume of impassioned pleas on our Twitter feed as that for Indonesian songstress Agnez Mo’s breakout international single ‘Coke Bottle’.
But there’s been no story for the Australian market thus far, apart from the fact that the singer is a superstar in one of our closest neighbouring countries.
Agnez has been releasing music in her homeland for near on 20 years, but it’s only in the past few years that she’s made a concerted effort to push beyond the boundaries of Indonesia in the hope of finding fame across the planet. After plenty of hard work, it seems the plan is finally coming to fruition, with the official video to ‘Coke Bottle’ notching up close to three million views in a week.
It’s Australia’s turn next, with Sony Music ready to drop the single locally at the end of the month. Throw in the star power of Timbaland and T.I. in guest rap guise and a polished, simplistic R&B sound and (the former) Ms Monica might have what it takes to crack the Aussie market.
