It wasn’t a hit for Elton John when it was originally released back in 1979, but with thanks to its use in a high profile advertising campaign, the track finally slammed the No.1 spot in Britain 24 years on.
Naturally, the track did very little here in Australia – in 1979 or back in 2003 – so former ‘The Voice’ runner-up Darren Percival has decided to launch it down under as the lead single from his forthcoming album ‘Lovelife’.
Released on Friday, the track stays relatively true to the original, with Darren revealing how his version came to be.
“I was in the gym near my house and the Elton John version began to play and I recorded it on my phone… that night Paul Gray (producer) started working on our version of the track and here we are several months later and it has become the single for my new album ‘Lovelife’.”
And with the album due on May 02, just in time for Mother’s Day, Darren has announced that he’s set to hit the road for a series of live shows as part of the ‘Lovelife’ tour.
The tour kicks off late next month, with selected dates dotted throughout June, July and August. Tickets are on sale now.
