All eyes will be on the Danish capital Copenhagen in a little over three weeks from today as 16 countries battle it out in the first of the semi finals in the hope of impressing their fellow Europeans enough to progress through to the final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. Two nights later, another 15 countries will be locked in a similar battle, but only ten countries from each of the semis will successfully progress to the all-important Grand Final on May 10.
Here at auspOp we’re slap bang in the middle of our annual Countdown To Eurovision, by taking a look at each of this year’s entries.
HERSI : One Night’s Anger
The Albanians will hit the stage early in the first of the semi finals on May 06, with local songstress Herciana Matmuja (aka Hersi) performing the English language track ‘One Night’s Anger’ after winning her way through her country’s selection competition ‘Festivali i Këngës’.
To be honest, we’re not quite sure what to make of the song. Hersi’s vocals remind us a little of Shakira’s; a little unusual. And while that’s no bad thing, we’re not sure that the track is outstanding enough to be able to garner the votes of the rest of the continent. And the video? Ultralight aircraft, fake clouds, barren landscapes, a bike ride, a horse ride and some random hair tossing and rocking out from what could possibly be an entirely different clip altogether… It’s utterly bizarre.
