In seven days’ time, the entrants in the first semi final will be nervously waiting backstage, warming up their vocal chords in readiness for the first of the semi finals in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. It’s now so close we can taste it, with two massive semi finals – set down for May 06 and May 08 – followed up by the big Grand Final on May 10.
Here in Australia, of course, we’ll be able to catch all the action on SBS with their coverage beginning on the Friday night (May 09) with the first semi final, followed by the second semi final and the Grand Final on the following nights.
AXEL HIRSOUX : Mother
Today we take a little look at Belgium’s entry into this year’s competition and it comes courtesy of 31 year old TV talent show regular Axel Hirsoux.
Axwel first rose to fame through ‘Star Academy’ last year, before trying his luck at ‘The Voice’. Neither ultimately got him to where he wants to be, but a place on the Eurovision stage this year seems to suggest there’s many in the industry back home that think he has what it takes to succeed.
Just over a week out from Mother’s Day here in Australia, Axel will perform the rather timely ‘Mother’ in the first of the semi finals. It’s a dramatic ballad that suits Axel’s booming vocal perfectly and while it’ll more than likely sail on through to the Grand Final, we’re not sure the Belgians have what it takes to emerge from Copenhagen triumphant.
