The entries are locked, the venue secured and in just under a month’s time, we’ll be venturing to the Danish capital of Copenhagen for the 59th annual Eurovision Song Contest. As with previous years, countries will compete across two semi finals with ten from each moving through to the Grand Final on May 10 where they’ll compete with the “big five” and the host nation in the aim of capturing Eurovision glory. Who’ll win their way through? The Georgians are certainly hopeful.
THE SHIN & MARIKO : Three Minutes To Earth
Three minutes is precisely what Georgian jazz fusion outfit The Shin will have (with songstress Mariko Ebralidze out front on vocals) to impress the voters of Europe with their entry in the second of the semi finals, to be held on Thursday May 08. We don’t know whether the word “impress” quite captures ‘Three Minutes To Earth’, however. It’s probably quite unlike anything we’ve seen at the Eurovision Song Contest before; we might suggest that all that might be missing here are the tie-dyed t-shirts and a sizeable collection of incense. There’s no denying the extraordinary musicianship on show here, but we can’t help but think that the whole of Europe will be left wondering what kind of a trip they’ve just been on.
