It’s a week tomorrow! Yes, all that glitz and glamour, the odd outfits, the key changes, the mammoth public voting all descends upon the Danish capital of Copenhagen for the annual Eurovision Song Contest. In its 59th edition, countries from across the continent will compete for ultimate Eurovision glory and the right to host the contest next year.
The competition is broken down into the two semi finals (on May 06 and 08), from which ten countries each will progress through to the Grand Final on May 10. There, they’ll compete again, this time against the host nation and the big five of Italy, Spain, France, the UK and Germany. It’s the latter’s entry we’re taking a look at in the latest in our Countdown To Eurovision series.
ELAIZA : Is It Right
German trio Elaiza might have only been around for a little over 12 months, but they’ve been gifted the extreme honour of representing their country to the rest of Europe as part of this year’s ESC. They’ve done alright for themselves with their single ‘Is It Right’ thus far; reaching the top five on the German pop charts. Now they’re hoping to translate that success to the rest of Europe. We’re not sure, however, that any track with a piano accordion in it (perhaps with the exception of In-Grid’s 2003 club track ‘You Promised Me (Tu Es Foutu)’) will really work across all of Europe.
