The Eurovision Song Contest. Celebrated not only throughout Europe but also here in Australia where it enjoys an almost cult-like following. Broadcaster SBS will again be on board this year, sending both Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang along to cover the contest, with both the semi finals and Grand Final shown on subsequent nights; Friday May 09, Saturday May 10 and Sunday May 11 respectively. As we’ve done for the past six years, we’re counting down to this year’s contest by checking out each of the entries and beyond the club of the “big five”, they don’t come much bigger than Greece.
FREAKY FORTUNE FTG. RISKY KIDD : Rise Up
Young Greek duo Freaky Fortune (aka Nick Raptakis and Theofilos Pouzbouris) have been given the honour of representing their country at Eurovision this year and they’ll take the stage at the second of the semi finals aided by the rapping services of 19 year old London-born performer Risky Kidd. ‘Rise Up’ is bang on trend… a party-style dance anthem with traditional Greek flourishes and a guest rap star that virtually mirrors the stylings of Sam & The Womp’s chart smash ‘Bom Bom’. And if it worked for them, there’s no reason it won’t work for Freaky Fortune. This will sail through to the Grand Final and has the potential to perform strongly come the Grand Final on May 10.
