As you may or may not be aware by now, there’s a certain annual song contest coming up in just two weeks time in Denmark. And as always, here in Australia we’ll have the chance to see each of the entries on our TV screens with local broadcast partner SBS.
The semi final telecasts will be delayed by a couple of days; the first will screen on SBS on Friday May 09 and the second on Saturday May 10, both at 8:30pm. The Grand Final broadcast, however, will screen mere hours after it takes place in Europe; at 7:30pm on Sunday May 11.
So who’s going to make it through? Which country will triumph over all others? Only time will tell!
VILIJA MATAČIŪNAITĖ : Attention
From information obtained from the Eurovision website, it almost seems as though Vilija’s entire career has been made up of singing competitions. ‘Amber Star’ in 2004, ‘The Way To The Stars’ in 2005, ‘National League of Music’, ‘National League of Music : Christmas Cup’ and ‘The Crystal Stork’ in 2006, ‘National League of Music – St. John’s battle’ in 2007, ‘Singing With The Stars’ in 2008… the list goes on and she’s still just 27 years old.
Look there’s no denying that Vilija is talented vocally; as evidenced in the live clip of the track below. But the issue in this case is that the track doesn’t really know what it wants to be. It’s a bit all over the place; a little bit pop, a little bit rock, a smidge of rap thrown in. Ironically, what the song is missing is attention… to detail. As such, we don’t even know whether Lithuania will make it past the semi final stage.
