While our look at each of this year’s Eurovision entries only kicked off this time last week, we’re now in the home stretch, with less than a month before the first of the semi finals kicks off in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Ten countries from each of the two semi finals will make it through to the Grand Final on May 10 where they’ll come up against the “big five” of Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as the host nation Denmark. Has The Netherlands got what it takes to make it through to the Grand Final? Let’s find out!
THE COMMON LINNETS : Calm After The Storm
It’s always a tough decision to make… whether to perform a track in your home tongue or to go with the English language option and hopefully garner a few more votes across the continent. The Dutch entry this year opts for the latter, with a track performed by a duo who, although known to each other, were put together specifically for the purposes of conquering Eurovision. And with ‘Calm After The Storm’, we have no doubt they could.
Though it’s a country song at its heart, ‘Calm After The Storm’ is a gorgeously soft, meticulously crafted three minute number that melds Ilse and Waylon’s vocals spectacularly. It might not usually be our cup of tea stylistically, but there’s nothing not to like about this. It’s sublime.
