Want to know who footed the bill for the video for James Blunt’s new single ‘Postcards’? Well let’s see… at a mere ten seconds in, the wraps come off a shiny new car. There’s some tender caresses of said shiny new car, followed by some admiring glances at shiny new car. Then some ladies start pressing the flesh up against said shiny new car, there’s a drive in shiny new car, a chance to show off some of the features of shiny new car, ladies dribbling icecream onto… shiny new car, watermelons (yes, watermelons – ’cause that happens ALL the time) falling off the back of a truck which allows James to show off stability control capabilities of shiny new car.
Yes, there are some glimpses of James performing the track in front of an appreciative audience near the beach, but let’s be totally serious. This so-called “video clip”, while showcasing James’ new song, is nothing more than a car ad. A four minute, 15 second, no-holds-barred car ad.
A postcard, if you will, from Bavarian Motor Works.
