• British singer songwriter Sam Smith has long been touted as “one to watch” for 2014 and given he lands on Australian shores this week, EMI is making sure that media is across his latest single ‘Stay With Me’. The track is one of a number of new tunes doing the rounds at radio this week.
• Also out and about are the aforementioned new Ariana Grande single ‘Problem’, a re-service of Tina Arena’s ‘Only Lonely’ in the wake of her stunning Logies performance, Milky Chance’s chart favourite ‘Stolen Dance’ and Justice Crew’s ‘Que Sera’, along with a re-service of Nabiha’s ‘Mind The Gap’. There’ll be a more comprehensive list doing the rounds on our FACEBOOK page tomorrow.
• Superstar UK DJ Gareth Emery will tour Australia in July. With his new album ‘Drive’ dropping just yesterday, the EDM star announced he’d be performing shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and the Gold Coast, kicking off with a date at Melbourne’s 170 Russell on July 11. Tickets for all shows are on sale tomorrow.
• Dutch urban performer Mr.Probz has premiered atop this week’s UK singles chart with his latest single ‘Waves’. It’s the producer and hip hop star’s biggest hit to date and the only track to make an impact beyond his homeland (and Belgium). Cash Cash’s single ‘Take Me Home’ (currently being used in Channel 9 promos) debuts at No.5, DJ Cassidy’s seriously overlooked ‘Calling All Hearts’ (featuring Jessie J and Robin Thicke) premieres at No.6 and the new Neon Jungle track ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ (the one that gave name to the band itself) debuts at No.7.
• And it’s week number two atop the UK albums chart this week for Paolo Nutini and his LP ‘Caustic Love’ in what’s a relatively quiet week premiere-wise. Iggy Azalea’s ‘The New Classic’ is the only new top five entry (No.5). Eels’ ‘The Cautionary Tales Of Mark Oliver’ debuts at No.7, while the new Kelis album ‘Food’ is in at No.20.
