Fresh from their appearance at Sunday night’s TV Week Logie Awards and almost at the end of their Australian tour (they play the final show in Adelaide tonight), the gents from MKTO have overnight dropped the official video for their latest single ‘American Dream’.
It’s essentially a track about sticking your middle finger up at the notion that said ‘American Dream’ has to include the obligatory spouse, 2.4 kids and a house with a white picket fence in the suburbs. It’s about shifting focus to living your true dream, whatever that might be – and it also pays tribute to John Mellencamp’s 1982 hit ‘Jack & Diane’, released way before the MKTO boys were sucking their rusks.
In the clip we see a cellist, an artist, a dancer, a basketball player, a designer all reaching out to fulfil their own dreams and aspirations.
While it’s no ‘Classic’ or ‘Thank You’, there’s still a lot to like about ‘American Dream’.
