Just days ahead of the beginning of her co-headlining tour with Janelle Monae, expat New Zealand songstress Kimbra has delivered a taste of brand new music. Not just any new music, however. No, this is ’90s Music’.
But if you’re expecting those kind of ’90s pop or dance beats, think again. It may be ’90s Music’ by name, but it certainly ain’t ’90s Music’ in sound. This is very stylish, very futuristic, as Kimbra attempts to bend the rules of pop, with the first offering of new music from her forthcoming second album.
It has an almost oriental feel to it in parts and though the verses are quite restrained, it’s when that first chorus clicks in at 76 seconds in that everything just falls into place. Yes, it’s ’90s Music’, but it’s oh so now.
According to our sources, the single is due for digital release on Tuesday May 20.
