• Damien Leith has teamed up with his extensive local fanbase to create a brand new single to pay tribute to mums across the country. And given Mother’s Day is tomorrow, the timing of its release couldn’t be more perfect. The singer collected “ideas, memories and sentiments” from his fans to create a song that he hopes serves to celebrate mums from all walks of life, all over the country. ‘One & Only Mum’ is available for purchase on Damien’s WEBSITE, but those who sign up to his mailing list will receive it free.
• James Reyne will hit the road in August to tip his hat to the music of Australian Crawl. ‘The Crawl Files Live’ tour will see the singer delving into the back catalogue of one of the country’s most loved bands, revisiting classics like ‘The Boys Light Up’, ‘Things Don’t Seem’ and the inimitable ‘Reckless (Don’t Be So)’. Kicking off in Melbourne on August 01 and 02, the tour also visits Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Tickets are on sale now.
• Chrissie Hynde has revealed that the second single from her forthcoming album ‘Stockholm’ is ‘You Or No One’ (cover art pictured). Staggeringly, ‘Stockholm’ is the Pretenders vocalist’s first ever solo album and anticipation is high ahead of its June 06 release.
• Chet Faker can do no wrong right now, with tickets to his upcoming national tour flying out the door. He’s now sold out four nights at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre, three nights at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre and two nights each at The Tivoli in Brisbane and the Astor Theatre in Perth. Add to them sold out shows in Wollongong and Geelong and there’s no stopping him.
• Rick Springfield, who recently announced he’ll tour Australia in October this year, was honoured overnight with a star on Hollywood’s iconic Walk Of Fame. His star, the 2,525th to be awarded, is in front of the Live Nation offices on Hollywood Boulevard.
• John Legend must have been sick and tired of constantly playing the bridesmaid to Pharrell Williams’ global smash ‘Happy’ on the US singles chart. But this week, he moves into bride territory, with his single ‘All Of Me’ finally moving into the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. But the other big news this week is the extraordinary debut for Ariana Grande’s single ‘Problem’, which (with a little help from Iggy Azalea) slams the No.3 position on debut. Iggy’s other single ‘Fancy’ (with guest vocalist Charli XCX) moves up a further three positions to sit at No.4, meaning our expat songstress now features on two tracks within the US top five. British boyband Rixton are also in the action this week; their single ‘Me And My Broken Heart’ bulleting from No.29 to No.14. Michael Jackson’s single ‘Love Never Felt So Good’ debuts at No.20.
• Surprise surprise! ‘Frozen’ is still ‘frozen’ in the top spot on the US albums chart. It’s there for week No.13 this week, holding off a debut for Lindsey Stirling’s album ‘Shatter Me’, which debuts at No.2 and Ray LaMontagne’s ‘Supernova’, which premieres at No.3. Passion’s ‘Passion : Take It All’ is in at No.4, Timeflies’ ‘After Hours’ debuts at No.8 and Whitechapel’s ‘Our Endless War’ is in at No.10.
• What’s going to happen on this week’s ARIA charts? Who’s going to be at No.1 on the singles and albums charts? Who’ll debut where? You know you’ll discover all that information and more in tonight’s Chart Watch. It’s live at 7pm on the Australian East Coast.
