• It’s not the first time we’ve featured British-based singer songwriter Kymberley Kennedy on the site – and it no doubt won’t be the last. On Monday, she’ll release her new mixtape ‘Cycles’ via her website; a release that comprises a collection of stylish pop gems from various genres. Check out a preview on YouTube HERE.
• British trio Nero are back with a brand new single. They hit the big time with their 2011 single ‘Promises’, which smashed No.1 in their native UK and even spent time in the Aussie top 40. But it’s been a couple of years since we’ve heard hide nor hair of them… ’til now. ‘Satisfy’ is the band’s just-released single and it’s lifted from their all-important sophomore album, which EMI hints we’ll be seeing “later this year”.
• Foo Fighters will release their eighth studio album later this year, but it will accompanied by an eight part documentary series, which covers the album’s creation. The series will premiere on HBO, but there’s no word on free to air action here in Australia.
• He may be more widely known these days as a morning TV presenter, but David Campbell still knows how to belt out a tune. He’s just announced a brand new collaborative project with acclaimed composer John Bucchino on which the pair celebrates John’s extensive catalogue of work on Broadway. The 11 track collection will be released via Social Family Records on Friday June 13.
• Multi-faceted performer Sohn will perform his first ever Australian shows next month, announcing dates in both Sydney and Melbourne. The artist (real name Christopher Taylor) will play Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on June 24 and Melbourne’s Ding Dong Lounge on June 25. Tickets for both are on sale this Monday from 10am.
• The Audreys have added two extra dates to their forthcoming national tour. The Adelaide duo will now play the Byron Theatre in Byron Bay on June 19 and the Dunsborough Tavern in Western Australia on July 05. Tickets for both are on sale now.
• John Legend makes it two weeks on the trot this week on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts, with his gorgeous tune ‘All Of Me’ maintaining its No.1 heading in the States. Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ doesn’t look like going anywhere in a hurry, though, sticking at No.2, but it’s expat Iggy Azalea seemingly intent on knocking them both over, with ‘Fancy’ increasing its chart position from No.4 to No.3 this week.
• The ‘Frozen’ soundtrack’s run at No.1 on the US albums chart is over, with the latest edition of the ‘NOW’ compilation series taking over the top spot this week. Volume 50 of the iconic music series only bumps ‘Frozen’ to No.2, however, so depending on sales across the next week, it may very well retake the lead on next week’s chart. Hunter Hayes’ ‘Storyline’ premieres at No.3, Sarah McLachlan’s ‘Shine On’ debuts in the No.4 spot and there’s another debut at No.5 from Tech N9ne Collabos with ‘Strangeulation’. Atmosphere’s ‘Southsiders’ and Santana’s ‘Corazon’ round out the top ten debuts at Nos.8 and 9 respectively. Lily Allen’s ‘Sheezus’ just misses the top 10, premiering at No.12.
• Naturally all this interest in the charts has whetted your whistle for something a little closer to home. And of course, we’ll be back later with our weekly Chart Watch, live at 7pm AEST, in which we’ll take a look at all the goings-on on the ARIA top 100s.
