The team from ARIA has given us a snapshot into the music buying habits of us Aussies with a look at the top 100 singles and albums of 2014 to June 30, with the Mid-Year Top 100 charts officially revealed today.
On the singles chart, firstly, it’s been a ‘Happy’ six month period for Pharrell Williams, with his global smash placing at No.1 on the top 100 list, ahead of A Great Big World’s ‘Say Something’, Sheppard’s ‘Geronimo’, Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ and Justice Crew’s ‘Que Sera’. Joel Fletcher and Savage’s ‘Swing’ follows at No.6, ahead of John Legend’s ‘All Of Me’, Sia’s ‘Chandelier’, Rudimental’s ‘Free’ and 5 Seconds Of Summer’s ‘She Looks So Perfect’, meaning five of the top ten best-selling tracks of the year thus far are by homegrown artists.
On the albums front, the pack’s headed by INXS, who are the only Aussie entry in the top ten, with their closest Aussie competition coming from No.12’s ‘Built On Glass’ by Chet Faker. The ‘Frozen’ soundtrack sits at No.2, followed by Coldplay’s ‘Ghost Stories’, Katy Perry’s ‘Prism’ and ‘G I R L’ from Pharrell Williams.
