It’s so easy to dismiss the Jedward boys as just another novelty act who came through the British edition of ‘The X Factor’. Yes, they’ve been taunted for their high hair and their boundless levels of enthusiasm and energy, but credit where it’s due… John and Edward have achieved what many of their former reality TV peers haven’t, by surviving five long years in the entertainment industry.
And they’re doing alright for themselves too, with TV shows, advertising and modelling opportunities; not to mention their two appearances for Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest. Their net worth is estimated at in excess of six million Euros.
So while many may laugh, Jedward are doing the same, except they’re doing so all the way to the bank.
Being masters of their own domain has meant that they can release new music whenever and in whichever format they like, they’re incredibly well-connected to their fans, particularly on Twitter and they’re also hands-on with their video clips, filming and producing them all.
For their new single ‘Free Spirit’, they’ve hit the shores of Ireland and popped across to Italy, where they’re filmed in front of the Colosseum in the middle of Rome. Some of the shots are obviously studio-based, but it’s five and a half minutes of gorgeous scenery set to an altogether decent up-tempo pop tune with a catchy chorus.
And those still doubting the boys’ vocal ability might want to check out John’s recent impressive cover version of Coldplay’s ‘A Sky Full Of Stars’ (HERE).

I love the song and love the video. John and Edward have to work so much harder than a lot of people think and they’re doing themselves and their fans proud. Can’t wait to hear their new album when it comes out later in the year!

Thanks for the lovely review of Free Spirit! One thing I must point out though, is that everything was actually shot on location. There were sightings of them in Rome tweeted by tourists (to which the fans, unaware they were out of Ireland…all said “WHAT”). The Irish countryside shots are in the Wicklow mountains, most notably Powerscout Falls, Ireland’s highest waterfall, at 121m.
They are the absolute epitome of the modern independent musical act – as you say, masters of their own domain. Bring on their new album this September!
