• Don’t stare at it too long or you’ll risk ruining your eyesight. Perhaps. Yep, the new single for The Presets has arrived. It’s called ‘No Fun’, but that’s not strictly true… it comes with what’s being billed as a “world first” six-sided interactive music video. House on a cube, with support from Google Play, there are six full length clips running simultaneously, allowing the viewer to choose how best to manipulate the cube to get their favourite angles. • Following on from the ‘Chasing The Sun’ edition of their debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ last year, the boys from Oasis will release a ‘Chasing The Sun’ edition of their critically acclaimed follow-up ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’ at the end of September. Four versions will be released; a fully remastered standard edition, a 12″ vinyl edition, a special three disc set featuring b-sides, demo versions and rare recordings and a limited deluxe boxset, available via the band’s website. ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’ (Chasing The Sun Edition) will be released in Australia on September 26.
• US singer songwriter Ryan Adams has announced the September release of his eponymously-titled new album. The eleven track release is the first album from the performer since 2011’s ‘Ashes & Fire’ and is already available to pre-order through digital channels. It’s due September 05.
• Weird ‘Al’ Yankovic is another back with new music. The comedian and performer will release ‘Mandatory Fun’ this month and has been teasing the new release with some short clips on his YOUTUBE channel. With titles like ‘NOW That’s What I Call Polka!’ and ‘Lame Claim To Fame’, there are bounds to be laughs aplenty when it drops on July 18.
• Jimmy Barnes is set to celebrate 30 years as a solo artist next month with the release of ’30/30′. To celebrate the milestone, he’s enlisted some of the biggest names in Aussie music to breath new life into his classic hits, including Tina Arena, John Farnham, Keith Urban, Baby Animals, Bernard Fanning and more. ’30/30′ will be released on Friday August 29.
• Daniel Merriweather has announced a one-off show in his hometown of Melbourne. With his new album “almost complete” and being readied for a release later in the year, this will be first chance for fans to hear his new material. He’ll play Howler in Melbourne on Wednesday August 06; tickets are on sale now.
• Jonathan Boulet will hit the road next month for four headline dates in support of his new album ‘Gubba’. He’ll hit the stage at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on August 15, the Pirie & Co Social Club in Adelaide on August 16, Goodgod in Sydney on August 21 and Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on August 28. Tickets are on sale now… ‘Gubba’ is out on Friday July 18.
• Illy will play dates in regional Queensland as part of his ‘Cinematic’ tour. Fans will be able to catch him playing in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Airlie Beach, Townsville and Cairns on consecutive nights from September 03. Tickets are on sale now.
• Another week, another record for Iggy Azalea in the US. Her single ‘Fancy’ is still wedged in the No.1 spot Stateside (for the sixth consecutive week) and Ms Iggy achieves the longest No.1 reign for a female rapper in Billboard chart history. She has, however, lost her grip on the No.2 spot with Ariana Grande; Magic!’s ‘Rude’ climbs from No.3 to No.2 this week. The rest of the the top ten is completely stagnant. Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ hits the top 20.
• Bam! That’s the sound of Ed Sheeran premiering in the top spot on the Billboard 200 Albums chart with his new album ‘X’. His previous album ‘+’ only managed No.5 in the US, so a No.1 will no doubt be extremely gratifying. The top spot debut adds to No.1s he’s garnered across the globe. It’s a British boy one two… Sam Smith staying in the No.2 spot with ‘In The Lonely Hour’ for the second week. G-Eazy’s ‘These Things Happen’ debuts at No.3, with Lana Del Rey’s ‘Ultraviolence’ slipping from No.1 to No.4. Debuts for Mastodon and Phish in positions six and seven.
