For a fleeting moment, the name ‘Wafia’ might conjure up images of burly Mediterranean types armed to the hilt with machine guns controlling the streets of Western Australia, they couldn’t be further from the truth.
Wafia is actually a fresh-faced 21 year old pop starlet from Brisbane, who’s coming up with the goods in the pop music sphere.
After breaking through via a collaboration with Melbourne outfit Japanese Wallpaper last year, which resulted in a place on the soundtrack to Zach Braff’s film ‘I Wish I Was Here’, she’s just served up a cover version and has delved deep into the R&B archives to find it.
‘Let Me Love You’ was a big Aussie hit by US singer Mario back in early 2005. The song premiered in the No.4 spot down under and stayed wedged in the top ten for a further 12 weeks… a big, fat hit.
Wafia’s new version stays relatively true to the original, but updates it with bumpy beats and synthesisers and twists it with a female vocal. Listen below.
