Bob Evans’ single ‘Don’t You Think It’s Time’ has undergone a bit of a makeover, guided by the able hands of 23 year old Queensland native Zeek Power.
The cover came about via a song competition, sponsored by Telstra, that aimed to give an overlooked Australian single a second chance at success.
Bob Evans’ ‘Don’t You Think It’s Time’ was chosen as the track and Zeek uploaded his version of the song on the very last day of the competition. Naturally, he’s chuffed to have been picked as the winner.
“The best thing is how excited my mum and dad are,” he said in a statement. “It’s an amazing opportunity, to be able to work with the teams at EMI, Universal and Telstra… I’m just going to keep working hard and being honest about my music. Who knows what the future holds?”
Even the man behind the original was impressed. “Zeek added a new dimension to the chords and melody of the song and really made it his own.” Bob said of the cover.
Zeek not only gets his version of the track released via EMI, but he also picks up $10,000 for his troubles, a photo shoot and an official music video.
The singer has uploaded a vast series of cover versions to his YouTube account over the past four years, garnering almost 1.5 million views in total.
‘Don’t You Think It’s Time’ is available for pre-order now prior to its digital release this Friday.
