Melbourne artist Gab Strum (aka Japanese Wallpaper) is having one hell of a year.
Still just 17 years of age, the Melbourne-based producer took out the latest edition of Triple J’s ‘Unearthed High’ competition – which aims to uncover the nation’s best high school music act – has released two singles thus far, the first of which (featuring Brisbane’s Wafia) was picked up for use on the soundtrack to Zac Braff’s movie ‘Wish I Was Here’, has been lauded by industry types across the country and is now readying the release of his third single ‘Between Friends’.
This time, he’s teaming up with an Adelaide talent in vocalist Jesse Davidson, who was also part of the Triple J competition and if the reaction to its premiere just yesterday on Triple J is anything to go by, Gab’s got another hit on his hands.
Sweet, delicate bell-filled production combines beautifully with Jesse’s soft vocals that remind us of Mister Chris Martin.
It’s confident, assured and rather special.
