We have no idea how Newcastle-based performer Nick Saxon finds the time to record solo music, what with his TV presenting role for ‘National Geographic’, his film producing and editing, touring the world, playing with a band and indulging his love of surfing, but a little listen to his new single ‘Sherpa’ and we’re glad he did.
It’s a song that was inspired by a man Nick met while trekking through the Himalayas.
“I was hiking two days into our trek to Temboche Monastery, and took a break to catch my breath,” he says of the song. “I noticed a sherpa passing, quite old and small of stature. But he was carrying twice his bodyweight up this mountain, and God knows how much further he had to go. I took a photo, and showed him. The reaction on his face when he saw himself with the mountains in the background is something I’ll never forget. To see himself high above the clouds, with the mountain he climbs every day behind him gave him a sense of accomplishment and pride I think. It was awesome.”
It’s a beautifully sweet, warm and honest piece of music, with soft vocals and delightful production and we think you’re going to love having it in your collection for nothing, simply by hitting the download button in the link below.
