We’re kicking off a special #TBT Thursday by looking back at some of our old logos and features here on the site, including the old Lookback segment.
Lookback was a weekly feature on auspOp from the middle of 2008 through to late 2012, unearthing some of those forgotten nuggets you perhaps thought you might never see again. Take this special #TBT Lookback from winners of the first Australian season of ‘The X Factor’ way back in 2005, Random.
RANDOM : Put Your Hands Up
Aaah ‘The X Factor’. More than five years before Channel 7 got their mitts on the international hit TV talent show, Channel 10 gave it a shot for one solitary, largely forgettable year. Hosted by Daniel McPherson, a slew of contestants from across the country paraded in front of judges Mark Holden, Kate Ceberano and John Reid.
Though contestants that year included Jacob Butler, Vincent Harder and Jack Byrnes, the competition was won by R&B group Random, who went on to release this, their debut single ‘Put Your Hands Up’.
How did it fare? It debuted at No.7 on the ARIA charts, stayed there for a second week and progressively dropped through the top 50 for a further seven weeks, after which it was relegated to chart history.
Looking back now, the track sounds a bit dated, but we can still easily imagine the appeal at the time.
