Nicole Scherzinger just can’t seem to break through in her own right here in Australia. Sure, she achieved plenty of success as the frontwoman for the Pussycat Dolls, but apart from her top ten single ‘Right There’ with 50 Cent and the altogether excellent ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’, there’s been very little time in the spotlight for Ms Nicole down under. Even her recently-released album ‘On The Rocks’ has failed to enter the ARIA top 100, despite making No.17 in the UK.
Could new single ‘Run’ reverse that trend and finally see her achieving a little bit of Aussie chart love?
On face value, yes. ‘Run’ is an incredibly moving piece of music. Nicole’s vocals are raw, infinitely vulnerable and impressive. The piano and strings beneath them are suitably restrained. Lyrically, it’s all about being able to move along from an abusive relationship and the clip… that too is simple, understated and elegant.
All forms come together to create a piece that’s rather powerful.
Radio might not play it, but we certainly buy Nicole’s performance.
