It’s not often an album goes platinum these days… A quick glance at this week’s top 50 ARIA chart reveals only two albums still within the top 50 that have achieved the feat in 12 months or less.
So congratulations are being dished out to EMI star Sam Smith, whose debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ has this week notched up platinum sales in Australia.
“My album just went platinum in Australia!!!!” the star tweeted. “I can’t wait to be over there again to personally snog each and every one of you.”
But the project’s far from over, with new single ‘Like I Can’ ready to make its way to media from Monday next week. It will follow on from ‘Money On My Mind’, the triple platinum ‘Stay With Me’ and platinum ‘I’m Not The Only One’ and will keep the album project ticking over well into the new year, when Sam will be back down under for his sold out national tour.
The ‘Like I Can’ EP will be released here on Friday December 05.

Great to hear that “Like I Can” will be getting an EP release – one of my favourite tracks on this stellar album. #Somanyfeels on this song.
