So here we come to the end of the year and the end of our countdown of the best albums of 2014. It’s been a great one for pop, there’s no denying it. There have been hits (such as the winner of our No.1 mantle) and there have been some misses.
But let’s get on to our No.1… It’s been an incredible year for British singer Sam Smith.
He kicked things off with the release of UK No.1 ‘Money On My Mind’, won Mobo awards for Best Male Artist, Best Single and Best Album, hit No.1 again in his homeland with ‘Stay With Me’ and then a month later released his stunning debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’.
Here at the end of the year, he’s sold in excess of two million albums, is still in charts the world over and in February is up for a swag of gongs at the 57th annual Grammy Awards. And it’s no wonder, because the album was truly sublime.
“Most of the tracks here seem to trigger emotional destruction,” Brad said of the LP. “And as Adele’s ‘21’ album proved, this is a very good thing.
“‘In The Lonely Hour’ is a stunning first album,” he said, “It feels more like a personal conversation with Sam than a commercial album release.” He went on to suggest to all to skip the standard edition and go straight for the deluxe.
It’s been on repeat here at auspOp all year. And we can’t wait to hear what comes next for Britain’s Sam Smith, whose debut ‘In The Lonely Hour’ is our album of the year for 2014.

Hey Robbie1979,
We’ve heard nothing of a deluxe repackage at this stage, but given the album’s success, you’d have to assume one may be incoming. That said, they may not wish to dilute the SS brand with multiple repackages and reissues.

Has a deluxe edition been released? I’ve been holding off getting a copy of this, presuming that a repackaged deluxe or tour edition will be forthcoming … Do you know if there is one coming? All I can find thus far is the standard 14 track edition.
