While the cover image of her debut single ‘Symmetry’ might not be quite so symmetrical, we’re not for a moment going to hold it against Melbourne chanteuse Stax Osset.
Because everything else about the self-produced track is rather magnificent.
Stax (real name Megan Kent) has her label understandably excited. After all, here’s a home-grown tune that’s so self-assured and polished that you’d swear Stax was an overseas pop prodigy and had been belting out singles for years. Yes, she may have dipped her toes into the music biz via an all-too-brief appearance on Allday’s album ‘Startup Cult’, but out on her own, it’s hard not to be impressed.
There’s shuddering beats, echoed vocals and stylish production values in both the sonic and visual aspects. Stax has also nailed it image-wise.
Check the clip below and if you’re in her hometown of Melbourne, you’ll catch her at Howler this Sunday.
