Australian audiences on the whole may only know them from their appearance on the recent top 20 chart hit ‘Sunlight’ by The Magician, but the future’s now looking a whole lot brighter for British electronic trio Years & Years, who earlier today beat stiff competition to be crowned winners of the ‘BBC Sound Of 2015’ poll.
The band, which has so far released only a few EPs locally, scooped the prestigious prize, which was voted on by a selection panel of British music editors, critics, producers and bloggers.
They were previously nominated for the Brit’s Critics Choice Award, which eventually went to labelmate James Bay. Ironically, Bay finished second in the ‘Sound Of 2015’ poll.
Years & Years, made up of Olly Alexander, Emre Turkmen and former Aussie resident Mikey Goldsworthy, will release their new single ‘King’ in late February, before their debut full-length album drops later in the year.
