There was a time, not so long ago, when Australian record labels (and therefore media) turned their noses up at anyone coming out of British TV singing competitions. Fast forward just a few years, however, and virtually every winner, runner up and contestant gets a look-in.
The steady stream of ‘X Factor’ successes began long before James Arthur, Little Mix, One Direction, Olly Murs and Ella Henderson.
Back in 2005, in the competition’s second outing, it was Shayne Ward’s time to shine.
After taking the crown, he went on to release a string of top ten platinum-selling singles and albums. But none of them has seen the light of day here in Australia.
Now proudly independent, Shayne is free to release his music in any way – and in any country – he wishes. So Australia will finally get a little Ward love in April, when the singer drops his new album ‘Closer’.
Co-penned with Mike Stock of Stock Aitken Waterman fame, the new LP comprises ten new tracks, including lead single ‘My Heart Would Take You Back’.
Both single and album are due for release down under on Sunday April 12.
1. Moving Target
2. My Heart Would Take You Back
3. I Never Said
4. The Way You Were
5. Too Much To Lose
6. Crying, Lying Eyes
