Gorgeous British chanteuse Rebecca Ferguson will drop her new album ‘Lady Sings The Blues’ in just a few weeks from now and she’s continuing the countdown to its release by revealing some spine-tingling live versions of tracks from it.
You’ll no doubt be aware by now that it’s a straight out covers set; a reinterpretation of Billie Holiday’s 1956 album of the same name, recorded at the iconic Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.
But the tracklist on Rebecca’s version doesn’t exactly mirror that of its identically-named predecessor.
Album opener ‘Get Happy’, for example, is more widely associated with Judy Garland than Billie Holiday.
But here, performed live and with just a piano for accompaniment, Rebecca injects all the soul of a performer many years her senior and it’s pretty sublime. It’s also just two and a half minutes long, so press play; get happy.
