There’s no denying the genius of disco super-producer Nile Rodgers. From the disco era of the late ’70s right through today, Nile’s list of production credits is truly extraordinary; from Chic’s early dance hits (‘Everybody Dance’, ‘Le Freak’, ‘Good Times’ etc) through to smash hits for Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Madonna, Duran Duran to, more recently, a collaboration with Daft Punk, which reignited interest in the producer and performer’s classic sound.
Now, after 25 long years, Chic is back with a brand new album, due in the middle of the year. And the first single from it is ‘I’ll Be There’.
Naturally, it’s incredibly reminiscent of the disco era past, with plenty of trademark Rodgers guitar licks and a totally familiar baseline. There’s even a little sample of ‘Everybody Dance’ to keep purists damp for the release of the LP, so we know everything old is new again.
Add US model Karlie Kloss into the mix for the official video and you’ve got a rather likeable nu-disco number.
