What’s not to like about ‘Back Seat’, the latest EP from Melbourne five piece Number Station?
Though it may have been released towards the end of last year, there’s no denying that each of the five songs contained on it are universally appealing. And though it’s tagged as indie in the Soundcloud link below, there’s something very pop about lead track ‘The Money’, which is an aurally appealing synth-laden pop number with ’80s new romantic influences, good beats and dreamy vocals.
‘Get Out Of Your Own Way’ delivers beefier beats, ‘Want You To Know’ feels instantly familiar (again laced with ’80s influences) and ‘Our Friends’ confirms what we’ve known from the EP opener… that this is a band which knows a good hook when they write one.
Forget the indie tag, folks. Here’s an Aussie band delivering a succession of polished pop gems that, given the chance, might be among your new mainstream favourites, if only given the chance.
