No pressure on the Armenians then? The Eurovision Song Contest officially kicks off in the Austrian capital Vienna a month from today with the first of the semi finals. And the very first country to take to the stage in that very first semi final is Armenia.
Naturally, they’ll be wanting to ensure the song that put up – ‘Don’t Deny’ – is a cracker that will hit the European audience right between the eyes and have them voting at the end of the night’s proceedings.
There’s a little Aussie connection here too; the opera-singing member of the band Genealogy (so named because each of the players is of Armenian descent) has an Australian father.
So what of the song? Will it see the Armenians through to the Grand Final? No. It might be lovely and the voices work together beautifully – especially towards the end – but lovely alone won’t cut it. Quatre points.
