• Andrew De Silva’s hot new single ‘I See The Future’ is among the new singles rolling their way to Aussie media this week. Andrew and his publicists are taking full advantage of what’s otherwise a relatively quiet week due to the Easter break, servicing the new track, which features hints of Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake.
• Andrew will be doing battle this week with the likes of Patrick Watson, Jake Jackson, Shelley Segal and Amanda Easton, all of whom see their respective new singles hitting the market.
• The guys at Remote Control have confirmed the upcoming local release of the debut Jamie xx album ‘In Colour’. The LP, with a super eye-catching cover, comprises 11 new recordings including new single ‘Loud Places’ and album opener ‘Gosh’, will be released in Australia on Friday May 29.
• Legendary outfit Fleetwood Mac must be doing something right. Tickets to their long-awaited Australian tour don’t go on sale until 10am today, but demand for them is clearly very strong, with Live Nation confirming that they’ve added a second and final show at Hope Estate Winery in the Hunter Valley. The new show is locked in for Sunday November 15 and tickets, like all the others, are on sale from 10am today.
• Indie darlings Skipping Girl Vinegar will drop by the Victorian Arts Centre in May for a one-off show. They’ll be doing so to launch their latest album ‘The Great Wave’ and will play the Playhouse on Saturday May 02. ‘The Great Wave’ hits stores from this Friday.
• Record Store Day is now less than three weeks away and organisers are continuing to update the website with the latest instore appearances and special editions that music fans can get their mitts on for one day only. Keep your eye on www.recordstoreday.com.au in the lead-up to Saturday April 18.
• After seducing us all with her vocals on the Clean Bandit singles ‘Rather Be’ and ‘Real Love’, Jess Glynne has stepped onto the winner’s podium under her own steam; debuting in the No.1 spot in Britain with her breakout solo number ‘Hold My Hand’. James Bay edges a little higher with ‘Hold Back The River’ (No.4 to No.2), while last week’s No.1 – Sam Smith and John Legend’s ‘Lay Me Down’ – drops to No.6. Up and coming Aussie pop star Conrad Sewell gets a leg up in Britain, with Norwegian producer Kygo’s single ‘Firestone’ (on which he vocals) jumping from No.37 to No.22. Rihanna’s ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ debuts at No.29.
• And on this week’s British albums chart, it’s new sensation James Bay who rules the roost, premiering in the No.1 position with his debut long player ‘Chaos And The Calm’. Sam Smith’s still hanging around the No.2 position, Seasick Steve’s ‘Sonic Soul Surfer’ debuts at No.4, Kendrick Lamar’s album drops from one to five and further top ten debuts come from Laura Marling’s ‘Short Movie’ at No.7 and Cribs’ ‘For All My Sisters’ at No.9. Melbourne starlet Courtney Barnett’s LP ‘Sometimes I Sit And Think and Sometimes I Just Sit’ premieres at a very respectable No.16 and Kylie’s ‘Kiss Me Once : Live At The SSE Hydro’ debuts at No.26.
