Azerbaijan hasn’t done too badly in the Eurovision Song Contest. Since they started participating in Europe’s biggest singing competition back in 2008, they’ve placed in the top ten in every year except one, have hit the top five five times, finished third (2009), second (2013) and won back in 2011.
So no pressure on 28 year old performer Elnur Hüseynov, then. That said, he’s had experience, representing Azerbaijan at Eurovision before (back in 2008) and recently being crowned the winner of the Turkish edition of ‘The Voice’ (cue canny Eastern European bloc voting).
Couple all of that with the fact the song’s completely decent, with soaring vocals and, yes, a key change and you’ve got a track that’d bound to soar in the voting. Dix points.
