Right from the get go, we’ll admit to being Ruffo fans. We’ve spent enough time in Johnny’s presence over the past few years to appreciate his cheekiness and his sense of humour, so we’re crossing our fingers that this new tune is worth the listen.
We weren’t huge fans of his first forays into the world of pop, but his last single – ‘Untouchable’ – was great. It’s just that, as far as radio was concerned at least, it really was untouchable.
So will the new single give US that ‘O’?
Maserati at the Cross. Check. Funky basslines and ’80s synths. Check. Catchy chorus. Check.
Co-penned by Pinto and Tan (Gary and Michael were also behind this single’s predecessor), it might not have the same level of polish as was applied to ‘Untouchable’, but it’s no less catchy.
Let’s hope it does enough to allow him to continue indulging the Wagon Wheel addiction.

auspOp. If you watch Johnny Ruffo on The X Factor you’ll find he was damn right unbearable and can’t sing to save himself. There is so much talent out there yet we give this tosser another bone to try and make it when he is never going too… Less reality recognition is needed if the Australian music industry is to survive. This is just another example of people behind the scenes 100% pulling strings.
