This is Mike Waters. He’s from Melbourne. He likes caps. He has a beard. A big, ginger beard, as it happens. He’s also got a new EP – his debut EP if you don’t mind – called ‘Life’, which dropped at retailers everywhere on Friday.
He’s also gone and dropped a rather amazing video for current single from it, ‘Gambling Man’. It cost “next to nothing” to make and sees Mike being smeared with coloured paste, naturally all in the name of art.
But it’s the way that it’s been edited together that impresses most.
“It took many rehearsals and run-throughs. I regularly sat in that chair in the freezing cold, shirtless and with my head covered in a mixture of sorbolene, cornflour and food colouring,” Mike says of the shoot. “The studio didn’t have hot water, so cleaning up afterwards was testing. But it was definitely worth it. When we felt we were happy with the test takes, we turned our pockets out, hired a camera, set up some lights, and spent the day doing take after take. It was a hell of a lot of fun.”
Will he try and recreate the clip as part of his forthcoming trio of live shows? Maybe you’ll have to head along to find out;
