Is it seriously 20 years since Aussie duo Savage Garden started their domination of the Australian charts and media landscape?
Well not quite. It was 1995 when Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones first came together to plan their global assault, but it was a year later when their debut single ‘I Want You’ (yes, we thought it was Roxette at the time too) catapulted them into the pop stratosphere.
What followed was a string of incredible pop nuggets that delivered the chaps success far beyond their dreams.
Both Darren and Daniel are involved in this new project, that brings together Savage Garden’s biggest hits, from ‘I Want You’ to ‘To The Moon And Back’, ‘Truly Madly Deeply, ‘The Animal Song’, ‘Affirmation’, ‘Hold Me’ and more, along with a previously unreleased demo of a song called ‘She’.
Of this previously unreleased track, Darren says, “It’s a long time ago, but my recollection is I was writing about the relationship that I have, and continue to have, with the women in my life. From my Sister to my Mother and all the friends and the wonderful female relationships in my life. I know I’m indebted to these incredibly strong women who loved me and taught me what it was like to be strong and succeed in a world where you sometimes feel underestimated.”
“From memory I think we just sat down and literally wrote it together in my parents’ house in Brisbane,” Daniel added. “I remember my mother really liked the track – the innocence and raw beauty of it. It’s very pro-female song so I think a lot of girls will relate to how powerful it is for them. I think that was probably the biggest reason why my Mum really took to this particular song.” Listen to ‘She’ HERE.
The released will also a DVD, comprising local and international versions of their video clips.
Expanded editions of the two Savage Garden albums will also be made available and will include remixes, along with live and rare recordings.
